Effects of different cut-to-length harvesting structures on the economic value of a wood procurement planning problem

چکیده
In this paper, we develop a Mixed Integer Linear model for a practical multi-facility wood procurement-planning problem using a cut-to-length (CTL) bucking system. This forest management problem is difficult to solve since it integrates the forest bucking problem and the multi-facility supply planning problem. A priority list approach was used to generate adequate bucking patterns for the Eastern Canadian context of operations. The model proposes a decision support with respect to: how to harvest the different cut blocks according to the bucking priority list used, and in what quantities harvested logs should be transported to saw mills. It aims at minimizing a combined non-linear harvesting cost, a transportation cost, an inventory cost and the maximization of the products value (i.e., profit maximization). The harvesting cost, used in the model, considers the non-linearity of the harvester productivity function, which is an important aspect of the decision-making process in current forest management. The model was used to compare the current bucking scenario to two new conceived ones. These scenarios allow investigating the gains and losses that could arise from the use of different bucking aggregations. More specifically, they consider the disaggregation impact on the number of different log types per block and so on its associated harvesting cost. Moreover, they aim to better understand the cost/benefit trade-off of implementing a more complex decision structure in a Canadian wood procurement context. Annual timber procurement planning with bucking decisions
The problem we consider is a practical multiple-period wood procurement planning problem in the Eastern Canadian context. The forest cut blocks are large and heterogeneous; they have different densities and the diameter of the trees varies. This is a difficult forest management problem because it integrates two related problems: the forest bucking problem with a cut-to-length (CTL) bucking syst...
متن کاملComparison of damage to residual stand due to applying two different harvesting methods in the Hyrcanian forest of Iran: cut-to-length vs. tree length
Damage to residual stand is unavoidable and it is one of the main important issues in the forest harvesting. Trees damage may occur in felling and skidding work phase or during skid trail construction. In any case, damage can be very serious to residual stand. Detailed study is necessary to find out the amount and severity of damage to trees; therefore district 14 of Kilesara in Guilan Province...

Background: The stability of arid and semi-arid rangeland ecosystems is mostly affected its vegetation. Therefore, assessment of plant communities is necessary for protect these ecosystems. متن کاملThe effects of improved permeability on rainwater harvesting in irrigated fields
Infiltration phenomenon, has a direct impact on rainwater harvesting in fields under irrigation. In order to solve this problem (reduced infiltration and increased runoff), a few strategies can be suggested. Taking long-term decision for increasing the efficiency of irrigation should be strongly suggested. At the same time, ways in which customized irrigation is optimized must be studied. An ol...

Supplier selection and material procurement planning are the most important issues in supply chain management. This decision is complicated when the buyers face with discount price schemes. In real situation, each supplier may apply different methods such as different types of discount schedules and various types of payment in order to increase market share. In this situation, buyers try to sel...
